It's election day in Mississippi as voters head to the polls for this year's party primaries.

Across the state officials expect to see a busy day for precinct workers.

This election includes every seat in the state Legislature and every county and regional race.

Some officials are running unopposed, but not many.

As we've seen over the past few years, every vote is important.

Even candidates make sure to get their ballots marked early.

Remember, these are party primaries.

Winners tonight go on to meet the winners of their opposing party in November.

In some cases there may be no opposing party candidate which means the winner tonight will go on to take the office.

Those races that are not decided tonight, will be narrowed down for a runoff election in two weeks before heading to the general election on November 6th.

The polls opened at seven o'clock this morning and will close at seven this evening.
